How did COVID-19 impact the world ?
Under the influence of the pandemic of Covid-19, there have been numerous changes to various aspects for people. For instance, living styles, working routines, economic conditions, and even the environment have thoroughly changed due to the pandemic. Both advantages and disadvantages reveal that the pandemic hit the world in a wide variety of ways.
Take economic condition. Due to the pandemic of Covid-19, According to International Monetary Fund (IMF), the global economy has reduced by about 3%. It is the most severe recession since the Great Depression in the 1930s. In addition, there have been more than 10% of people in the USA face the crisis of unemployment. Likewise, according to Central News Agency (CNA), the average unemployment rate in 2020 is 3.85% in Taiwan. It reflects the influence of the pandemic as well.
Besides the recession of the economy, the pandemic of Covid-19 has changed the daily routines in the workplace. First of all, the usage of telecommunication for remote work has increased. To reduce the risk of transmission because of interpersonal communication, numerous firms conduct work from home (WFH), which lets employees deal with their work in their homes. It seems to be a flexible way for employees to work, but sometimes leads to the hybrid of work and life, making employees much more tired than ever. However, if remote work does not decrease work efficiency, it is a possible chance for employers to think twice about the necessity of physical offices.
Another significant issue under the influence of the pandemic of Covid-19 is the environmental aspect. Because of the strategy of lockdown around the world, the natural environment has gradually been rehabilitated. According to BBC, with the decreasing of activities of people, wild animals enjoy a much more spacious environment than ever. However, the pandemic also increases the usage of disposable tools such as face masks, chopsticks, spoons, and cups. These tools usually turn out to be trash, which increases the burden on the environment.
Overall, the pandemic of Covid-19 has changed the world in various aspects, such as living styles, working routines, and economic conditions. The recession of the global economy and unemployment have hit numerous countries tremendously. In addition, the pandemic urges employers to adjust the work routines as well. That is to say, work from home (WFH) is gradually conducted in numerous firms around the world. Besides aspects mentioned before, the pandemic has also changed the environment. To be specific, because of lockdown and decreasing of people’s activities, it is helpful for the environment to be rehabilitated gradually. However, under the influence of Covid-19, the trend that people tend to use disposable tools is hurt for the environment. To sum up, both innovative changes and new problems have been revealed under the impacts of the pandemic. It is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for people to think twice about the relationship between the globe and people.
